Dr. YAO Ke

Dr. YAO Ke is one of the well-known ophthalmologists and cataract surgeons. He is the professor and chief of Eye Center, Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine and Zhejiang University Eye Hospital, China, the current President of the Chinese Ophthalmological Society and the President of APACRS. Professor Yao is also the Board Member of ICO, the Regional Secretary and Council Member of APAO. He was voted as member of AOI and fellow of AAPPO. Professor Yao is devoted to promoting communications and academic exchanges regionally and globally. He served as the Co-Chair of WOC 2022 and the Convener of the Cataract Programs for APAO Congress 2018. Besides, Professor Yao was the awardees of Chinese National Award of Science and Technology Progress for three times, ICO Mark Tso Golden Apple Award, Alfred-Vogt Prize of Switzerland, APACRS LIM Lecture and Gold Award etc.

As a national and international leading cataract surgeon (performed >50,000 cataract surgeries), Professor Yao has trained and supervised over 1,000 cataract surgeons, clinical and research fellows from around the world.

Academically, Professor Yao was the pioneer and promoter of the modern cataract surgeries in mainland China who took the lead in performing phacoemulsification cataract surgery as well as the FLACS in China. He has published 512 clinical and scientific papers with 289 published in peer-reviewed international journals.

Additionally, Professor Yao is committed and enthusiastic about public welfare, especially on prevention of blindness. In 1996, he founded the first “Automobile Eye Hospital” in China which outreached the rural regions including Tibet, Inner Mongolia and more than 10 provinces, and provided free charge cataract surgeries for 13,000 poor patients.
