Prof. Dr. Timo Eppig

Timo Eppig acquired his diploma in engineering in 2005 with the thesis on „Shack-Hartmann sensors for simultaneous measurement of corneal topography and the aberrations of the human eye“. After that he worked for Sill Optics GmbH, an industrial lens manufacturer before he joined the Friedrich-Alexander-University in Erlangen. From 2006 to 2009 he was working as scientist at the Medical Optics Research Group with Prof. Dr. Achim Langenbucher at the Institute of Medical Physics (Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Willi A. Kalender). In 2009, he completed his Ph.D. degree (Dr. rer. biol. hum.) with the thesis „Investigations on the imaging quality of aspheric intraocular lenses“. From 2009 to 2018 he was working as postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Experimental Ophthalmology (Prof. Dr. Achim Langenbucher) at Saarland University, where he finished his Habilitation in 2016 and received the venia legendi. In 2018 he joined the Advanced Medical Implant Consulting (AMIPLANT) company as head of research and development.

His main focuses are the development and optimization of novel optical and imaging based diagnostic and therapeutic methods in ophthalmology, optical simulations, customized optical implants, functional implants, biometry and IOL power calculation. He published more than 90 peer-reviewed papers, several book chapters and contributed to numerous national and international scientific conferences.
